American Idol' to get makeover with exits of Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey both announced Thursday that they're leaving (CNN) -- There won't just be a new winner next season on "American Idol." Most everything about the show may be new.
Weeks after Randy Jackson announced his departure from Fox's long-running music talent show, two of his fellow judges -- Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj -- followed him out the door Thursday.
That leaves only one "Idol" judge left in crooner Keith Urban -- for now.
News of Carey's departure came out first Thursday, in the form of a tweet posted on her official account that stated she was saying "goodbye 2 idol" (and, simultaneously, announced a new world tour). Players behind "American Idol" -- namely Fox, FremantleMedia and 19 Entertainment -- confirmed her departure in a statement.

Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe wears a garland during a rally held on March 2, 2013 in Bindura,

Harare, Zimbabwe (CNN) -- Zimbabwe's highest court Friday ordered President Robert Mugabe to ensure the African country holds elections by the end of July.
Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku said that out of a nine-judge panel only two had dissented to the ruling he delivered.
Mugabe "is hereby ordered and directed to proclaim dates for presidential, general elections ... which elections should take place not later than 31 July 2013," he said in a packed Supreme Court chamber.
Zimbabwe PM: People still believe in me
Zimbabwe's challenge: Confidence
The ruling was made after a former journalist with a defunct daily newspaper asked the court to order Mugabe to call for elections by end of June.
Zimbabwe's parliament expires automatically on June 29 but Mugabe would have had until October 31 to hold elections.

Soldier's family to world: Keep calm, don't seek revenge

People and soldiers gather Sunday outside the Royal Artillery Barracks, near where British soldier Lee Rigby was killed May 22.

People and soldiers gather Sunday outside the Royal Artillery Barracks, near where British soldier Lee Rigby was killed May 22.

London (CNN) -- The family of the British soldier killed in broad daylight last week urged people angry over the slaying to remain calm and not seek revenge.
Attackers killed Lee Rigby a couple of hundred yards away from the Royal Artillery Barracks in the southeast London district of Woolwich.
"We would like to emphasize that Lee would not want people to use his name as an excuse to carry out attacks against others," the family said in a statement issued Friday by the Ministry of Defence.
The killing has sparked an intense investigation by police, who announced yet another arrest in the case Friday: a 42-year-old man seized on suspicion of supplying illegal firearms.
Rigby was run over by a car and then stabbed in a daylight attack on May 22.
Since the killing, anti-Muslim actions and angry social media sentiment have emerged in Britain.
But the family stressed that "it would not wish any other families to go through this harrowing experience and appeal to everyone to keep calm and show their respect in a peaceful manner."
Rigby -- who had served as an infantryman in Afghanistan and Cyprus -- "loved life and he loved people," the family statement said.
"He had many friends from different walks of life -- some with different religious beliefs and cultures. But this made no difference to Lee. He always treated others with the greatest of respect," the family said.
The death has been "devastating," and the family is grateful for the public's "overwhelming support," in Britain and all over the world, the statement said.

FG probes 21 banks over Federation Account remittances

Coordinating Minister for the economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala
The Federal Government on Thursday empowered 53 consultants to verify remittances to the Federation Account by the 21 banks hired by the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Nigeria Custom Service.
The verification and reconciliation exercise will cover a period of four and half years beginning from January 2008 to June 2012.
Inaugurating the consultants in Abuja on Thursday, the Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mr. Elias Mbam, said the lead consultant was expected to submit the final report on August 15.
Mbam said the exercise became imperative following irregularities in the remittances of revenue from collecting banks engaged by FIRS and NCS, which were observed by the Non-Oil Monitoring Committee and Mobilisation Department of RMAFC.

Credible youths, only hope for survival of democracy’

Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin
Social crusaders, Prof. Pat Utomi and Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, on Thursday said the involvement of credible youths in politics remained the only way to save the nation’s democracy.
They stated this in Akure, Ondo at a summit organised by Youths Coordinated Campaign in conjunction with the state government.
Rather than equipping young Nigerians with dangerous  weapon and using  them to unleash terrors on their perceived political enemies, Utomi advised politicians to encourage the youths to participate in vibrant politics.
He said, “Youths do not need financial power to seek elective office. They should embark on self-consciousness campaigns to mobilise themselves. They should encourage themselves and support themselves. They should go to the polls and police their votes. It is not the issue of money but commitment.”
Utomi noted with concern that inability of the governors to elect a chairman for the Nigerian Governors’ Forum recently “underscored the need for young people to rise up to the challenge.”

Meet the married couples who never have sex but insist they're happy

When married couples live like brother and sister. No sex for years and they insist they are happy. Are they deluded - or just honest? Read and tell us what you think...
Most evenings, with their little girl safely tucked up in bed, Charlotte and Chris Everiss (pictured right) enjoy a kiss and a cuddle on the sofa in front of the television.
Happily married for a decade, the couple cannot bear to even imagine their lives without one another. Yet, astonishingly, they haven’t made love for more than two years.
Both insist that their marriage, which followed a two-year courtship after meeting on a dating website, is stronger than most. It’s just that sex, they say, is not important to their happiness.

See The Best Assessment of President Jonathan's Government ––By Mallam El-Rufai

OluFamous.Com is not supporting anyone, the fact is I love the truth and can't ignore same whenever I come across it. The government of the day has not achieved much, despite the overwhelming support they got from Nigerians, but they are scoring themselves high. Excuse me, please!
As at Friday, May 31, 2013, major roads in Nigeria are bad –– Abuja/Lokoja, Lagos/Ibadan, Benin/Ore, etc etc. Most parts of Nigeria, including my own house, don't have up to 6 hours of electricity per day; yet the Presidency is scoring itself high. Based on what parameters?
Please read the assessment by Mallam El-Rufai below...
"Under President Jonathan's stewardship, unemployment in Nigeria has grown from about 21% in 2010 to an estimated 29.3% in 2012."

N’Assembly dissatisfied with Dana crash compensation – Reps member

The Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Aviation, Mrs. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has said that the National Assembly is not satisfied with the compensation so far paid by Dana Air to relatives of victims of the June 3, 2012 crash of its air plane.
Onyejeocha said the House would soon scrutinise the issue with a view to addressing the plights of the affected families.
She spoke during the presentation of the Felicia Agubata Engineering Scholarship awards in Lagos.
According to the lawmaker, the committee will invite the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority to examine what has been done by the management of Dana Air.
She said, “We need to invite NCAA and know how far they have gone. I read in the papers that only few families have been compensated and I felt very bad.
“I know that the National Assembly will wade into it and the House of Representatives in particular. We are approaching June 3, 2013 and it is like a nightmare.”
On Monday, Dana said a total of $3.95m had been paid as compensation to relatives of victims and crew members, who died in the crash, which occurred in Lagos.
The Head, Corporate Communications, Dana Air, Mr. Tony Usidamen, said 106 families had received different amounts as compensation.
He said, “As of Friday, May 24, 2013, 95 of the 125 families who completed claim forms had received interim compensation of $30,000 following legal verification of documentation and next-of-kin status, while 11 have received full compensation of $100,000.

Market fire outbreaks force traders to embrace insurance

The incessant fire outbreaks in markets across the country have driven more petty traders to take up fire insurance covers.
The Managing Director, Niger Insurance Plc, Mr. Kola Adedeji, said there had been an increase in premium collected and claims paid as a result of market fire incidents.
He attributed the rise to the awareness among shop owners and petty traders that they could get substantial compensation if they suffered losses.
“People are seeing the need now to have that kind of financial protection, most of the small traders in the central markets now have fire insurance cover for their shops.  Sometimes, the premium they pay is as low as N16,000 per annum and we pay compensation to them in millions,” Adedeji said.
Many big markets have been shut down over the years as a result of fire incidents, which have exposed the poor safety measures and inefficient fire fighting capability in the country.

Train derails in Lagos

A section of a train returning from Ijoko in Lagos State to its base at Ebutte Metta, Lagos on Wednesday derailed at Agege.
The incident which occurred between 11.30pm and 12.30am was said to have been caused by defective tracks.
As of 11am on Wednesday, the scene of the accident had been cordoned off by policemen from the Railway police.
An employee of the National Railway Corporation told PUNCH Metro, on the condition of anonymity, that the driver of the locomotive also shared the blame in  the accident.
The source said, “The rails were not aligned properly; there was a gap between them which ought not to be. It so happened that the driver who was driving the locomotive, was moving at a high speed. When he ran into the improperly laid rails, the locomotive was thrown off the rails.

It’s no crime selling human parts – Suspect

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a grandfather, Mr. Segun Kayode, for allegedly exhuming and selling human parts.
According to the police, the suspect, who works at a cemetery in Epe area of the state, was arrested with a human skull.
Police sources told PUNCH Metro that the suspect sold human parts for a living, adding that he had become notorious in the area for selling human parts.
It was learnt that the suspect was arrested following a report by a resident who saw him displaying a skull for sale.
The grandfather, who could not give his exact age, said he started selling human parts because he was poor and jobless.
He said, “I live at 2,Tungbehin Street, Epe. I have two children and I am a grandfather. I have always been poor all my life because I had no formal or informal education. I used to be a fisherman but when there were no longer fishes in rivers in my area, I became a gardener at Epe Local Government Secretariat
“About four years ago, the LG said they no longer needed my services so I started trimming grass at a cemetery in the area.”
The suspect, who did not deny the allegations, said there was nothing wrong in selling dead people’s parts since the dead never used them.
He said one day, while he was clearing weeds in the cemetery, he noticed a human skull which had been dug up.
He said, “Most times, when a corpse is not buried with a coffin, the possibility of the corpse resurfacing is very high. So, what workers at the cemetery do is to gather some of the corpses and burn them instead of burying them again.

Siblings arrested for stealing N43m from brother-in-law

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four brothers for allegedly stealing N43m from their brother-in-law, Umeagudosi Nnama, in Ikeja area of the state.
According to the police, the suspects, Obinna Okezie, Mike Okezie, Chibuzor Okezie and Matthew Okezie connived with one Okechukwu Uzoma, who is an employee of the victim, to rob him of the money.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Nnama owns a bureau de change at the Murtala Muhammed Airport. The suspects were said to be employees of the victim as well.
According to sources, the suspects on May 1,2013, went to the victim’s office and deceived the employee on duty, Desmond Ameife, into giving them the money on the pretext of giving it to a customer.
A police source said, “Nnama just lost his wife and he has not even buried her yet. The brothers conspired among themselves to rob Nnama, who is also their boss.
“Nnama’s company, PNnama Enterprise serves as a middleman between Chinese manufacturers and Nigerian traders. The company helps traders to send money to Chinese manufacturers. On May 1, the brothers told Ameife to give them $200,000 and N11m (N43m) saying they wanted to give the money to a customer.
“The suspects then took the money and ran away.”

Celebrities are going crazy these days and they are ready to do anything just to be in the limelight. A Kenyan artist let fans touch her private part while she was performing on stage.
The weirdest part of the story is that she didn't mind nor try to stop them or even get up from her position so as to stop the embarrassing moment.
I'm still wondering what she was thinking or maybe she was so high on drug that she didn't even realize what she was doing. Na wa for these stars oh! The American celebrities they are imitating can never do this.

See How President Jonathan Fumbles & Wombles In Two Years Of Presidency

This is a retrospective look at the last two years of the President Goodluck Jonathan's administration with a match of his many promises and his performance in office.

The key imprint of the Transformation Agenda heralded at the onset of the 2011 election campaign was that Nigeria would be transformed into a new nation in various aspects of endeavour. Two years into his term, an analysis of the specific promises of transformation shows the administration succeeding in some sectors but struggling to attain key parameters of the agenda in STRATEGIC SECTORS...

Jonathan it would be recalled, had during his whistle-stop campaign across the 36 states of the federation , pledged to fix the following sectors; power, economy, energy & gas, education security, agriculture, water resources among others. He also promised a better deal on the Niger Delta issue, women empowerment, and reforms where necessary.

Supreme Court Judge Secretly Pays Ransom For His Wife's Release

Kidnappers have released the wife and daughter of Supreme Court Justice, Adedoyin Rhodes-Vivour after over two weeks in captivity. The victims were dropped off by the gang somewhere in Benin.

Asked of the whereabouts of the victims, the source said “They have reunited with their family in Lagos.”

There is a strong suspicion that the Justice family was released after payment of ransom. But no one knows how much exactly was paid to the kidnappers, who had demanded N200 million.

Just last Wednesday, when I closed from school, Biola came to me in company of two unidentified boys and said his mum wanted to see me. I asked him what led to the invitation by his mum.

"I then told him I would not go. Then, one of the two other guys who had a ring on his hand hit me on the chest and I was unconscious. They took me to the residence of one of the boys and raped me...

“Before raping me, they gave me alcoholic drink and after the crime had been committed, they gave me ‘covenant water’ threatening me that I would die if I told anybody of the act,” the girl revealed.
As you read this, two young men have been remanded in Agodi Prison by an Ibadan Magistrate Court for using a magical ring to abduct and gang-rape a 19-year-old student in Ibadan.
